Ashtrees Farm will have Purple Sprouting Broccoli on their stall on Saturday. We usually would not get to enjoy this much loved vegetable until around March. It’s not just the daffodils that have arrived early this year! As the weather turns colder this week it feels right to reflect back on the incredibly mild winter weather we have just seen. Whilst buying local, organic veg is one part of the solution to limiting climate change, vegetable farming is also, of course, itself impacted by the extraordinary changes we are already experiencing. This excellent Oxford Times piece gives a snapshot of the impact on growers in our area.

Fancy making some marmalade? Ashtrees Farm are supplying Seville oranges for customers that preorder by Sunday 17th Jan. Simply order how many kg you’d like by emailing ashtreesfarm@gmail.com then collect at Talking Shop on Saturday 23rd. The oranges are priced at £2.10/kg, and you can pay on collection. Have a look here for recipe ideas.
Over on our own stall this week we have a special offer on Bibijis sauces – get two packs for £5 – and make something hot to keep the cold out!
