Exciting things are happening now that we have signed the lease on our space. It creates so much potential for us to expand on the amazing volunteering project that we have built up together over the past 4 years. We will be able to extend the benefits that we’ve all felt from being involved – meeting new people, learning new skills, building our confidence, contributing to something really valuable for our community – to a much wider group of people as we work to set up our community cafe, shop and garden.
There is obviously a lot more work to be done now – grants to be applied for, partnerships to be built, training organised, the space equipped – as well as the work involved in running the Saturday market & cafe. In order for us to move things forward in establishing the weekday project we need another pair of hands available and committed to administering the market consistently from week to week. That way we can all volunteer safely, supported and with the resources that we need. That person will also be able to devote some time to growing the market so that it becomes an even more valuable community resource. This needs to be a paid post. The person will cover some of the market administration and project development work that currently sits with me and will continue to work as I do with a wider team of volunteers.
