The Aquilon Ensemble is an award-winning, young and dynamic wind quintet comprised of postgraduate students and alumni from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The ensemble is relatively new, having formed only in 2012, with the respective members having completed their undergraduate studies in a diverse range of cities including London, Cardiff and Durham. They have already broadcasted on BBC Radio 3 as part of the BBC Immersion Series and have performed numerous recitals in Portugal for the Harmos Music Festival, taking them to prestigious venues such as the Casa da Música in Porto. The repertoire the Aquilon Ensemble perform is varied and wide-ranging stretching from Mozart to contemporary composers such as Oliver Knussen. In their approach to this all-embracing repertoire, the group consistently achieve an original and fresh interpretation of any work they perform. In June this year, the ensemble attended the Tunnell Trust Chamber Course and enjoyed working with Neil Black and Sarah Burnett. The course allowed them the space and time to really blend as a group and they were given the opportunity to perform in three concerts and a children’s workshop whilst there. This helped them on the path to winning the Three Choirs Festival Competitive Masterclass with a prize of professional work in next year’s festival in Worcester

As part of their courses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Aquilon Ensemble are regularly coached by Joy Farrell, Phillipa Davies, Graham Sheen and Helen Simons. They have also taken part in a masterclass with Erik van Deurmen from the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam.
