Don’t miss the purple sprouting broccoli that’s in season right now. It’s delicious just steamed but here are a few tasty twists:

Honey and Soy Steam broccoli florets for a couple of minutes so that they’re still bright green with a bit of bite. Then fry 2 peeled and finely chopped cloves of garlic and a thumb-sized piece of peeled and grated ginger in a little oil. Add the steamed broccoli, stir-fry for a couple of minutes, then add a drizzle of honey and a splash of soy sauce.

Italian Style Finely chop a couple of cloves of peeled garlic and 1/2 a red chilli, fry for a couple of minutes in a drizzle of olive oil. Add broccoli stems to the pan with a splash of water. You can add a couple of anchovies too if you like – you won’t taste them, think of them as seasoning. Cook for about 10 minutes, until the broccoli starts to break down. Great stirred through pasta.

Posh Broc Toast a handful of flaked almonds in a pan and add a handful of raisins and a little knob of butter. Cook for a couple of minutes, then pour over steamed broccoli, give it a good stir and serve.
